Over 500 years after the publication of the book Llibre dels jochs partits del schacs en nombre de 100 by the Valencian author Francesch Vicent, the modern game of chess is returning to its origins: Valencia. And so, the city on the River Turia will be hosting a unique event from 21st to 25th September, as two chess legends, Anatoli Karpov and Gari Kasparov, battle it out at the Valencia Opera House (Palau de les Arts). These two great players have not faced one another since 1990.
Karpov & Kasparov
On 21st September, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum will be hosting a series of simultaneous matches, giving guest players the honour of pitting their skills against Karpov and Kasparov. A symposium entitled Valencia, the birthplace of modern chess, will be officially inaugurated on 22nd September at the Valencia Opera House (Palau de les Arts) and will run throughout the week. Every afternoon starting at around 7 p.m., these two great masters will show off their strategic skills at the Opera House.
