Castell de Foc in Valencia
In Valencia, the arrival of spring brings with it magic and colour spilling out from every corner of the city on the River Turia during the celebration of the Fallas. In March, the city is ready to inundate the streets with sound and welcome thousands of visitors hoping to squeeze everything they can into its sunny days and make the most of its fun nights.
If you don't want to miss out on any of the events programmed, the best option is to download onto your mobile the Guide to the Fallas 2010. Through this practical tool, you can find out about the routes organised around the Fallas, practical advice you should follow to enjoy them to the full, and much more besides.
Between 15th and 19th March, Valencia becomes a vibrant setting where emotions flow in each of the different events programmed. The night of 15th March sees the start of the Plantà (street exhibition) of the children's Fallas monuments, the event that marks the start of this major week of celebrations, which finishes on 19th March with the Plantà of all the Fallas.
Fire and gunpowder, in other words the mascletàs firecrackers and firework displays, have made this Festival of International Tourist Interest the major event of the year both for Valencians and visitors to the Region of Valencia. Furthermore, you now have the opportunity to create your own Mascletà through the new application on Facebook.

Another of the most important acts is the Floral Offering to the Virgen de los Desamparados, Our Lady of the Forsaken. The Fallas committees march to the Plaza de la Virgen square, presided over by the Queens of the Fallas and their retinue, wearing colourful regional costume and accompanied by music bands. There they will leave bunches of flowers that will be used to make the spectacularly beautiful tapestries that adorn this space for several days.
The culmination of these celebrations takes place on 19th March, the festivity of San José. At the Cremà all the Fallas monuments are burned, marking the culmination of these deep-rooted celebrations.
But Valencia is not the only city to celebrate to this distinctive festival. Many municipalities throughout the Region of Valencia share this beloved tradition. Discover them!
